===== Configuration of a TP-Link router ===== Example device: TP-Link TL-WR941N === Connecting to the router === - Connect the WAN port of the router to the LAN port in the wall - Connect the LAN port of the router to the LAN port on your computer (or connect to WiFi, see the manual) - Start a webbrowser on your computer (Microsoft Edge, Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome etc.) - Router default IP address: 192.168.0.1 oder 192.168.1.1 (depending on firmware) - Default login credentials: Username = admin; Password = admin === Configuration === For the first step, select "Quick setup" in the webinterface: {{routerconfig:tplink-step1.png?700}} Now we have to select our "Operation mode" in which the router will route packets. We want an own subnet with NAT, so we choose "Wireless Router": {{routerconfig:tplink-step2.png?700}} For the third step, we want to select how the router establishes an internet connection. Here, we choose "Static IP". We don't need the advanced settings. {{routerconfig:tplink-step3.png?700}} Step 4 is the most important step. We'll now set the IP address, subnet mask and DNS server of the router. **IMPORTANT!** Do NOT use the data from the screenshots but enter those which are sent to you via E-Mail! For the DNS, you can choose the official HRZ DNS servers or [[en:dns|use a third-party server]]. {{routerconfig:tplink-step4.png?700}} Finally, we'll configure the WiFi network. Please pay attention to choose a strong encryption method (WPA2, and even better, if your router supports it, WPA3) aswell as a complex password. You should not use the one from the screenshot, and you should choose your own password and not the default one (there are attacks in which it's possible, for certain routers, to calculate the default password from the WiFi SSID and some other data). {{routerconfig:tplink-step5.png?700}} Now you'll se a summary of your settings. You can now apply these and after a router reboot, the internet connection should work. Have fun! {{routerconfig:tplink-step6.png?700}}
