Our network is part of the German Research Network (DFN) - more precisely the Metropolitan Area Network Darmstadt (MANDA), which gives us a first-class connection to the world of scientific research and education. However, this affiliation is also accompanied by certain restrictions in terms of internet use. DFN places particular emphasis on security and the prevention of unwanted traffic. This may mean that some common online services and websites are only accessible to a limited extent or not at all. It is important to be aware that these restrictions are primarily to protect the network and the scientific resources shared within it. Our connection to the DFN thus offers us enormous advantages in terms of research and education, but also requires a certain degree of responsibility and restriction when using the internet.
