To configure a router, the computer used for configuration should get its IP address through DHCP. Most operating systems will configure themselves automatically. However, if you have changed this before, it's recommended to change the setting back to DHCP.

As the Netztutor*innen, we unfortunately can't provide a guide for every existing router. This has multiple reasons including missing documentation from the manufacturers or that we don't have the hardware to document the process ourselves.

To configure a router, please adhere to the following basic principles:

• Connect the LAN cable from the wall to the WAN port of your router! If you miswire this connection, for example to the LAN port of your router, it's possible that the router broadcasts DHCP to the wider network, possibly leading to a block of your account.
• You may need to ask for another MAC address, especially if you've configured your PC for internet access first and switch to a router afterwards
