Periodic outages

Periodic internet outages can be very disruptive and, in many cases, indicate underlying technical problems.

Possible causes

  • Cabling faults: Loose or damaged cable connections can cause the signal to become unstable.
  • Defective or incorrectly configured hardware: Routers or other network devices can cause outages due to incorrect settings.
  • External influences: Work on the higher-level network or disruptions at the Hochschulrechenzentrum (internet provider).

What you can do

  1. Check your own devices: Restart your computer and router. Also check cable connections and configuration.
  2. Contact lan tutors: Contact the lan tutors at your accomodation. Provide as much information as possible about the outages. They will help with troubleshooting.
